DIED

At his residence in West Providence Township, Bedford County, on Monday the 19th of December, inst., Baltzer Morgart, aged 68 years, 7 months, and 20 days.

The deceased was born in Bedford County, on the 29th of April, 1787, where he continued to reside until death terminated "the days of the years of his pilgrimage," and was deservedly esteemed by all who truly knew him. Naturally of a strong mind and correct judgment, possessing great inflexibility and decision of character, he won the confidence of the community, by a faithful and uncompromising discharge of the duties of the several offices to which their sufferages had elevated him. Blessed with the "creature comforts" of this world, he trust to be used without arrogance and ostentation, and willingly distributing from his portion relief to his indigent and suffering fellow man -- charity with him was not only a grace and virtue, but esteemed as a high and scared duty. In social intercourse, he was a cheerful, pleasant, and instructive companion, his friendship's when once formed, were strong, sincere, and enduring -- free from every sordid and selfish feeling.

He was an ardent and devoted member of the Baptist Church -- zealous and constant in all the observances of his creed -- liberally contributing, upon all occasions, to the advancement of its prosperity, deservedly securing to his memory the high estimation of the congregation.

During his long life, his correct and consistent deportment proved that he knew "How to live." Far better, the termination of his earthly career proved that he knew "how to die." No vain repining at the will of Providence marked the termination of his career. He hailed the closing scene as an act of grace and mercy; abounding in faith, he well knew that "the body's death was but the spirit's birth," and the change of mortality for immortality the consummation of the Christian's dearest hope.

The death-bed scene of this dying Christian was truly sublime -- lovely to the pure and faithful, as it would have been appalling to the infidel and unbeliever. Truly may it be said the calmest "hour of his life was the hour of his death."

The deceased has left a widow and a large family of children. Whilst they, true to nature's impulses, mourn over his loss, their sorrow will be subdued by the recollection of the manner of his life and death. Truly he has left them a rich inheritance, the treasure of a good man's memory.

530 BEDFORD INQUIRER, Bedford, Pa. - Friday, December 28, 1860

DIED - On the 21st of November, Mrs. Rachel Cessna, consort of William Cessna of Friend's Cove, in the 53rd year of her age.
The deceased was a native of Bedford County, and for many years a resident in Friend's Cove where she had gathered around her a large circle of friends and relatives, whose highest esteem she deservedly enjoyed. She was a mother of a large and respectable family of children, most of whom she was permitted to see settle in life. She possessed also more than ordinary abilities of mind and was, for years, a correspondent of a newspaper published in connection with the Baptist Church, and of which she was a pious and an exemplary member.
Her disease was one of much suffering. About two years previous to her death, she was attacked by cancer in its worst form, which the physicians pronounced incurable. Such an announcement, however alarming to some, was not so to her; she knew in whom she believed; she knew that Saviour in whom she put her trust would not forsake her now. Her sufferings were borne with a willing resignation to the will of God. As her disease advanced and her suffering increased, her mind became more devotious; and the more apparent was her enjoyment in seasons of divine worship. On the morning of the 21st, after partaking of some food, she calmly fell asleep in Christ, and while her body rests in a peaceful grave, awaiting the resurrection morn, her happy spirit is enjoying the reward of the righteous.
She has left to her bereaved husband and children, an overflowing fountain of comfort in the remembrance of her many virtues and in the happy assurance that their loss is her everlasting gain.

535 Benjamin Hull was commissioned Ensign of the Piscataway Military Company No. 4, of Col. Thomas Farmer's Regt. of N. J., in 1713. By his will, date June 5, 1731 and probated Jan. 4, 1733, he conveys to his wife Sarah the benefit of his home lot and one third of his movable estate; to his oldest son Joseph, ten shillings, and each of the remaining sons a one-fifth interest in certain real estate. No mention is made of any one of his five daughters. This would indicate that those of the number who had not married and received marriage dowers had died unmarried previous to the making of said will. Hull, Ensign Benjamin (I1982)

536 Benjamin was born in 1637, about the time that his father moved from Watertown to Ipswich, Massachusetts. He died in Bradford, MA, on June 11, 1696.

He was probably a resident of Exeter, NH in 1659, a carpenter by trade. Removed to Salisbury, MA, and was on the trial jury in 1662. Was a resident of Rowley, MA 12 May 1663, when he bought land in Rowley of Elizabeth Starret of Haverhill. At this time Rowley included within its limits the present Bradford, Georgetown and Groveland. his land was in what is now known as Bradford. On 20 Feb 1668, at the first town meeting in Merrimac, afterwards Bradford, he was chosen an overseer of the town. He was called of that town in 16 Mar 1670 and 15 Mar 1674. On 6 Jan 1675, he and his wife Mercy of Bradford, MA, sold forty acres of land to the inhabitants of that town for the use of the minister. On 23 Nov 1667, he bought several tracts of land. Among them was land which once belonged to his brother Thomas Kimball, who was killed by Indians on May 3, 1676. On May 16, 1683, residents of Bradford and other nearby towns sent a petition to the General Court asking "that a troop be raised out of Andover, Bradford, Topsfield & Rowley Village," as "Newbury is far remote from us." Benjamin Kimball's name is at the top of the list of signatures. It was also signed by Richard Kimball, either the son, or nephew, of Benjamin. Richard Kimball, his brother, died in 1676. On May 17, 1683, the General Court concurred with the petition, and established "a Foot Compani and one of Horse," commissioning and appointing "Mr. John Osgood to be Capt. of the Troop....& Mr. Benj. Kimball, Cornet." "Ben: Kimbal" and others signed, July 9, 1690, a notice that they "are ready & voluntarily offer our selvis to serve God, our King & Country in ye designed Expedition for Canada." This would have been the first expedition to take the fort at Louisburg, in Nova Scotia. His house was in the west parish of old Bradford, not far from the ancient cemetery. He was a wheelwright and a farmer.

He married in Salisbury, MA, in April of 1661 to Mercy Hazeltine. She was the daughter of Robert and Ann (Langley) Hazeltine. (Robert Hazeltine and his brother John were among the earliest settlers of that part of Rowley that is now known as Bradford, and Robert had afterwards permission to ferry passengers across the Merrimack river. The first marriage recorded in the Rowley books is "Robert Hazeltine and Ann his wife were married 10mo. 23, 1639." Mercy was born "16, 8mo, 1642" (October 16, 1642), and died January 5, 1707-8. She was one of the first members received into the first church of Bradford, when she, with sixteen other women, were admitted on January 7, 1682-3. Her will, made May 14, 1706, was proven February 2m 1707-8. She gives the names of her children in the will.

His inventory showed that he was well off for the times. The total amount of the estate was £1060.7s. Among the assets was a one-forth interest in a saw-mill in Haverhill, Massachusetts, near the Amesbury line, that he bought from Matthew Harriman. This interest was handed down in the family for several generations.

The gravestones of Benjamin and Mercy Kimball may still be seen in the cemetery in Bradford.
