Peter Morgart and family were early settlers in Fulton county, whence they removed to West Providence. Baltzer, son of Peter, was born in 1785. He married Mary Sparks, who was born in this township in 1798. They had eleven children, one of whome, Abram, lives upon the old homestead. The house, a substantial stone structure, was built by Baltzer Morgart as a tavern, and kept by him many years. He also held some local offices and was closely identified with the interests of the Providence Baptist church. Abram Morgart is married to Miss Sarah McElwain. They have seven children living and two deceased.

Before Jehovah's judgement seat
All, all of earth must soon appear -
Let us so live that we may meet.
The awful day without fear.
Zion rejoice, sing tuneful lays -
Earth's fading joys as nothing are,
Religion sweet in all her ways
May kindly dry each falling tear.
Oh what is earth - a day - a breath,
Riches and honor, bought so dear.
Gone as a meteor - stuck with death
All, all that we so cherish here.
Riches in grace alone's the prize.
That like the Christian never dies. J.F.
