    DAVID A. NICHOLS FAMILY CEMETERY
    By
    Harold Gentz
About a mile west of Beckemeyer on Route 50 is the Beckemeyer Cemetery. Almost due north, about 300 yards, in the edge of the timber lie three forgotten and neglected graves. Local tradition says that it is a husband and wife and one childy all died about the same time of diptheria and were buried on their farm land. The stones are broken and some pieces could not be found when a young Central High School freshman boy, Mike Kruse, of Beckemeyer took the inventory. The pieces were scattered and some were missing. Perhaps with a little probing in the ground missing pieces can be located and the stones repaired. There was no excavation down [sic] when Mike took the inventory on October 18, 1980. This is what could be found:

    David A. Nichols Maria P. N.
    Born Wife of
    Oct. 11, 1811 D. A. Nichols (This is a footstone,
Died (broken pieces no headstone found.)

    (broken in 4 pieces)

Found in the Clinton Co., Illinois index to estate files but not in the files themselves (box 126). Not found in the Probate Records volume K that cover his death date, which has only six pages (of over 600) that are not completely blank (4 Jan 2018)
