  	His baptism record gives the surname as "im der Masche." His surname at marriage and in the baptism of his first child is given as "vorn Marsch" first and second as "vorn Estch cond. Kotte." In later records it is just Kotte or a variant (Kaette). We believe "vorn Estch" was a mistake on the one record (it was the godfather's surname) and that he took the name Kotte from his wife.
