Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Sarah Tillman was born 8 Oct 1732, Brunswick Co., Virginia; died Jul 1822, Granville Co., North Carolina.

    Other Events:

    • Probate: Aug 1822, Granville Co., North Carolina; Will proved
    • Will: 25 Aug 1820, Granville Co., North Carolina; To David Tillman, seven slaves and household goods; to Elizabeth Lumpkin daughter of Joseph Lumpkin, a slave and a bed; "my friend" David Tillman executor

    Notes:

One correspondent stated that she gave most of James' property (which was considerable) to the Baptist Church. This is likely not true as James' will was very specific that she was not to sell or dispose of any of the property and that, after her death, it was all to be sold and the proceeds divided among several of James' brothers and nephews. Nearly thirty years passed before this sale took place and the proceeds were considerable, and by then divided among heirs of those who were named in James' will

    Died:
In a lengthy plea to the Granville Co., North Carolina court, numerous heirs of the heirs of Sarah's husband James Hunt state that she died "on or about the (blank) day of July A.D. 1822 at Granville County...."

Sarah married James Hunt 1753. James (son of Ralph Hunt and Dina Anderson) was born 1726, Hanover Co., Virginia; died 24 Nov 1794 - 7 Feb 1798, Granville Co., North Carolina. [Group Sheet]

Sarah — Anthony Lumpkin. Anthony was born Bef 1756; died 6 Apr 1811 - May 1811. [Group Sheet]
