    "Hugh White McCaleb (McKillip) married Elizabeth Holbrook on August 13, 1803 in Stokes Co., North Carolina. Hugh was the son of Andrew McKillip and Elizabeth Lowery and Elizabeth was the oldest daughter of James Holbrook and Barbara Fair. He was named in the will of his grandmother, Isobel Lowery, dated 11 Dec 1809, probated in 1812, and that of his father Andrew Mckillip in June 1810. He signed a power of attorney in Logan Co., Ky. in 1818, when he sold land that he had inherited from his father to his brother-in-law, Michael Fair. From there, he moved by way of Lauderdale Co., Tn. and Morgan Co., Alabama, to Fayette Co., Alabama. The family lived for several years in Morgan Co., near the city of Falkville. Three of the children were married there. The move to Fayette County probably occurred in the mid 1830's."

    A John McKillip from North Carolina appears in Fayette Co., Ohio with three sons "prior to 1812", purchased land in 1818, and was township treasurer of Jefferson Twp. in Fayette Co. in 1817. He is not to be confused with this John McKillip. The John McKillip who moved to Jefferson Twp. from the Carolinas had three sons, at least one of whom survived him and would have been mentioned with the two daughters of this John as his legal heir in 1823; he was this John McKillip's uncle.

    His two daughters were at the later date referred to in estate papers of his brother, Andrew, as "heirs at law of John McCalip, dec'd...."

    Thought perhaps to have died in the 1830s in McNairy Co., Tennessee. Probate records of McNairy County do not date back to the 1830s due to record loss; deed index of McNairy County from the 1820s through the 1850s shows only one McCaleb entry, a land sale by an Alx McCaleb in the 1840s. Estate records of his brother, Andrew, indicate an attorney was representing him in Stokes County by the mid-1820's, perhaps because he had moved away to Tennessee. (26 Apr 2018)

    On the morning of July 2, 1899, brother Andrew McCaleb died at his house near New River, Alabama. Uncle Andrew (as we all called him) was born on Feb. 3, 1813 in North Carolina, and moved to Fayette County, Alabama with his parents at an early age in which county he spent the remainder of his life."
