    John Nichols was a sergeant in Company J of the 111th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers Infantry. He enrolled 11 August 1862 and served three years. He was discharged from service 22 May 1865 at New Albany, Indiana by reason of Surgeons Certificate of Disability. He was wounded at the battle of Rocca, Georgia on 14 May 1864. Colonel James S. Martin was the Commanding Officer of the Regiment.

    John married Permelia Wells Locey 1871. Permelia was born 7 Aug 1851, Clinton Co., Illinois; died 3 May 1922, Redding, Shasta, California. [Group Sheet]
