  Notes	Probate records of Nantucket Co., Massachusetts date back to the founding of the county in 1695. Nantucket Island was previously (as of 1683) a part of Dukes Co., New York, which county was transferred to Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691, the county government being dissolved at that time, only to be reestablished in 1695, with Nantucket then being split into its own county. It is possible that earlier probate records for the area exist in New York (that is to say, Albany).
