Notes |
- Ludwick was a man of great physical strength and retained all of his teeth until his death, and his eyesight was little impaired by age. He was able to take a sack of grain in his teeth and throw it over his shoulder. He is said to have lived to be over a hundred years old. After the death of his first wife Barbara he married a second time, his wife's name being Philbena, or sometimes shortened to Phoebe. She was the mother of the last seven or eight children.
Ludwick's farm lay about a mile west of Madley, PA on Wolf Camp Run. He had a tannery and still on this property, and erected one of the first mills in that part of the country.
Tradition has it that one morning Ludwick had been sowing oats and came home from the field for the noon day meal. He laid down for a few minutes' rest and peacefully passed away.
Ludwick's will was signed Feb 20, 1827 and probated Aug 17, 1827. In it he mentions his wife Philabena. At that time most of his older children had moved to Ohio.
