Notes |
- Henry Kimball, was born in Rattlesden, county of Suffolk, England, in 1615. He came to America, with his parents, brothers and sisters, and Scott relations on the ship, Elizabeth. He married, about 1640, Mary Wyatt, the daughter of John and Mary (?) Wyatt. (According to THE HISTORY, the Wyatt's were on the ship Elizabeth, also. There is no indication of them in lists of the passengers of the ship."
She died in Wenham, Massachusetts, 12 Aug 1672. He married, secondly, Elizabeth (Black)(Gilbert) Rayner, as her third husband. She married, 1st, as his second wife, Humphrey Gilbert, and by him had a son, John Gilbert. She married 2nd, William Rayner, the son of Thurston Rayner. He died 26 Oct 1672, after which time she married Henry Kimball. As her 4th husband, she married, about 1678, Daniel Kilham (2). Her parents are unknown.
Henry settled first in Watertown, Massachusetts, and remained there after his father moved to Ipswich. Sometime after 1646 he followed his father to that place, and about 1655 he removed to Wenham, and spent the remainder of this life in that town.
8 Nov 1657, he subscribed £3 as minister's rate, one-half in wheat, the other half in Indian corn, "at Marchant's price." In 1659 he subscribed £3.05s, one-half in corn, and in 1660-1 he contributed 10s. toward the new meeting house. He was chosen constable 22 Oct 1669.
Henry gave several depositions in court, among which was one given 4 mo. (June) 1665, wherein he states "that he never gave Goodman Symonds 5s & 6 pens a day for his boy and his bullockes, nor never did intend it, and sins the last March Corte he came to me and tould me he would take but five shillings." In 1656 he complained against Thomas Smith of Ipswich on account of Smith's cows destroying his corn about two weeks before general training; the fence was broken down.
Henry deposes in 1669 that he was 53 years old. Henry's inventory was presented in court 16.4 mo (June) 1676.
