- Born in Ireland and known in Welsh history as "Yr Arglwydd Rhys," The Lord Rhys. Married Gwenillian, daughter of Meda ap Meridith, Prince of Powys. RHYS won recognition of his crown from King Henry II in 1158 and built Dynevor Castle. He had a daughter Gwenillian, and sons Hywel, Griffith, Rhys, Cynwrig, and MEREDITH. RHYS is buried at St. David's Cathedral. The Morgan family connection to the Royal Family of Britain derives from Lord RHYS.
