- Hudson G. Hester was the 15th. child of William "Buck" and Amy Malone Hester. Married Catherine O. Thorn. 4 known boys were born to this union.
Hudson G. enlisted in the Confederate Army on Dec. 21, 1861 in Cherokee, AL He was a member of Co. H 1st. Cav.
ON his CSA Army foot marker, it has his army unit:: Co. L
4th. Regt. Roddey's Cav. AL
He contracted Smallpox on his way home after being discharged. After arriving home he was forced to stand at a distance from his house, only to look and talk to his family for a short while.
He is buried in an unnamed cemetery # 4 near Mt. Zion Church near Russellville, AL. His grave is enclosed with a pretty white Wrought Iron Fence. Andrew Jackson "Jack" James, who also contracted smallpox, died about the same time and is also buried near Hudson's grave.
