Ephraim was a prosperous farmer and spent nearly all his life on the farm in Milligan's Cove. He was a Republican and filled several local offices creditably. Was always interested in the welfare of his family, his neighbors, his community, and his country.
A veteran of the Civil War, being a member of 138th Penn'a Infantry. While serving under Sheridan at battle of Cedar Creek, Va., he was wounded by a minnie ball passing through the left arm. After spending some time in the hospital he rejoined his regiment at Petersburg before the final surrender of Lee at Appomattox and was honorably discharged.
