    • George was the son of Elijah (Elijah was an officer in the Revolutionary Army, also a prominant settler in what is now West Providence Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, where he kept a tavern for some 50 years. Elijah was the son of George Barton, born 1716 in Hunterdon, New Jersey [a son of Noah Barton and Mary,] and Rebecca Morehead, born 1731 in Scotland and died 1774 in Pennsylvania) and Mary Barton (born 28 October 1758, Raritan Township, Hunterdon, New Jersey [a daughter of Elisha Barton and Jemina Van Kirk].

      "He [George Barton] married Catherine Morgart, whose father was an officer in the revolutionary army, also a prominent settler in what is now West Providence township, Bedford County, where he kept tavern for some fifty years. They became the parents of eleven children, four of whom died when young. The others are: John, Mary A., Peter, Elijah, Phillip, Baltzer, and George. Baltzer m. Nancy J. Chilcote, 15 Oct 1850."

      George, county commissioner, six years, also associate judge for nearly five years.

      George Barton (son of Elijah and Mary) married Catherine Morgart in 1806. She died 1863.
