- Son Ephraim Wildes, constable of Topsfield, Massachusetts in 1692, was called upon by the constable of Salem to arrest sundry persons on the charge of witchcraft. One of the accused, Deliverance "Goody" Hobbs, confessed the charges but as revenge denounced Sarah (Averill) Wildes--Ephraim's mother!--as the instigator of the witchcraft and she was executed after her "trial."
