    "No. 43: Catharina Laubacher
Today, the seventh day of month Paireal, in the fourth year
of the French Republic [26 May 1796]. In the eighth hour of the morning, appeared before me,
Jacob Kotz, Agent of the Villages of Eschbourg and Graufthal in
Lower Rhine Department [Bas-Rhin Department], Jacob Laubacher, citizen and
day laborer of Graufthal, with witnesses Michael Armentz, seven
and sixty years old, citizen and farmer of Eschbourg, and
Jacob Burg, two and forty years old, citizen and linen weaver. They
say that a girl was born, that they named Catharina.
The witnesses came down here to testify that the wife, Anna Maria
Frick, is the mother, and they have signed below, except for the
father, who is ignorant of writing so I wrote his name and he made
his mark. This is written in the village hall of Graufthal on
the day, month and year above."

AD One thousand seven hundred ninety six day
twenty-five month May I baptized under the holy law and
instruction, and with R. D. the civil administrator in Neuviller who
assisted with the ceremony. Baptized in her father's house was Catherine, legitimate daughter
of Jacob Laubacher, day laborer, and Anna Maria Frick, who were married and reside in
Graufthal. She was born the same day month and year, we rely on the mother for
the truth, absent the father. The godfather is Joseph Jacob, day laborer in
Graufthal, the god mother is Catherine Wallherr, unmarried schoolmistress, who was born in
Graufthal. Some of the people concerned cannot write, I certify their marks.
