Ruth moved with her husband John from Brimfield, MA, to Butternuts, Otsego Co, NY, in 1796. Ruth's descendants in the early 1830's changed the family surname from 'Danielson' to 'Donaldson,' believing, according to oral family history, that 'Donaldson' was the original family surname back in 1600's Scotland.

Much of the best research on the Donaldson/Danielson family was done from 1925-1965 by Harriet H. Donaldson Wilkinson.
